MOSS CREEK: The Grand Old Dame of Private Golf Club Communities
Moss Creek was designed by several Sea Pines alumnae who in 1975 saw a big opportunity in the marketplace: there was not one private golf community in this part of South Carolina. That led to the creation of Moss Creek, which today lays legitimate claim to being the first Private Golf Club Community in the area. The overriding philosophy here has always been "Everybody Who Lives Here Belongs To The Club.
There are two storied golf courses at Moss Creek, the Devil's Elbow South and Devil's Elbow North. Tom and George Fazio collaborated on the famed South course while Tom designed the North on his own. The highly regarded South Course was once the home of the LPGA Women's International. The North Course is equally popular with members and has the reputation of being another shot makers course, not overly long with average size greens but well-placed hazards and challenging fairways.
Bostwick Waterfront Park and Marina is the most extensive, beautiful water-oriented park in the county. It consists of deep-water docks and dry storage for small boats, a waterfront Olympic swimming pool, a grand playground with a tree house, generous park grounds and a large, waterfront party building. Moss Creek also has two large nature preserves and miles of bike and jogging trails.
Moss Creek is centrally located on the Mainland next to the bridges to Hilton Head Island. And because it is situated on a former hunting preserve, there are natural ponds, deep maritime woods and abundant bird and wild life.
The new clubhouse offers a full range of club activities and events. A traditional casual buffet dinner is held every Wednesday evening and is a great place to meet new members and guests to shake off the cares of the day. The rest of the week the club offers a varied schedule in its various dining and grill areas.
The new tennis center with teaching pro, full pro shop and exhibition courts is considered one of the better private tennis complexes in the area.
