COLLETON RIVER: Thirty-six Magnificent Nicklaus And Dye Holes

[View Colleton River Master Plan]

Colleton River is on the Mainland just two minutes from the bridge to Hilton Head Island. It is surrounded by the waters of the Colleton River and the Port Royal Sound with vistas out to the Atlantic Ocean. This is a remarkably beautiful piece of land!

If once is great, twice is nicer! Colleton River sports two championship courses both very different. Jack Nicklaus is responsible for one and premiere designer Pete Dye the other. Both have been listed in GOLF Magazine's Top 100 Courses in the United States. The both toy with BIG water: the Nicklaus with the Colleton River and the Dye course strings along the marshes of the Port Royal Sound. The Nicklaus course is a traditional layout with lots of water, lots of sand and an island green. Windswept river front fairways make for a tough challenge but not unreasonable. The Dye course is a masterpiece of Lowcountry land sculpting; there are actually some rather dramatic hills. It offers the contrast of deep woods play on the front nine vs. open water-view fairways on the back nine. Colleton River also boasts a unique Augusta National-style par three course.

Uniquely, each course has its own handsome, classic Southern-style clubhouse. The Nicklaus Clubhouse enjoys vistas over the finishing holes and the Colleton River. The Dye Clubhouse overlooks the back nine with the backdrop of the Port Royal Sound and the Atlantic Ocean. They each have gracious locker room facilities with steam, sauna and whirlpool.

The community enjoys the 6,000 sq. ft fitness center, the deep-water community dock and literally miles of nature trails. All this is rounded out by a Stan Smith Tennis Center and a separate swim club with a 25-meter pool. What nature didn't give to Colleton River the design teams did. The homesites are varied, the architecture is traditional, and only top of the line will do here.
